How it all started...
UBC began as a small home-based Bible study led by Pastor Rick and Shirley Oliver in January 1994. The study group soon grew too large to meet in a home and so moved to the Sweetwood Restaurant, where it continued to gather until celebrating its first Sunday worship at the Ukiah Senior Center’s Bartlett Hall on February 13th, 1994. About 150 people attended.
With support and involvement from the Santa Rosa Bible Church, UBC grew and matured. In April 1996 Dan Bohannon was called to join Pastor Rick as Associate Pastor. During the next few years, approximately 20 men met for prayer and Bible study on Monday mornings and developed the framework for the church constitution and mission statement. Steve Todd accepted the position as Youth Pastor in January 1998 in order to serve the growing number of families with children.
In January of 2000, UBC moved its offices to a facility on Orchard Avenue and moved its place of worship to the gymnasium at Deep Valley Christian School in order to accommodate a congregation numbering as many as 350 people. Shortly thereafter, Pastor Oliver resigned in order to take the position of Dean of Admissions and Placement at Masters Seminary in southern California. Pastor Bohannon became Senior Pastor for UBC.
Late in 2000, the church formed a committee to search for and raise funds for a permanent home, which resulted in a January 2001 move to the present church site at 2140 Arroyo Road, the former Deerwood Swim and Tennis Club. Two years later Pastor Bohannon left to pursue further education and Pastor Todd became the interim Pastor until 2004 when Pastor Oliver returned to the area and became the Senior Pastor once again. Pastor Todd then left to become Program Director at Mount Gilead Christian Camp. During this time (and serving until 2009) Dave Dick served as Associate Pastor.
In 2014 Pastor Rick Oliver retired and the church turned to the Lord for direction. For the next two years the church was pastored by interim pastors Dick Otto and Dr. George Fox as we searched for our next Senior Pastor. As providence would have it, the church was led again to now Dr. Dan Bohannon. In late 2015, Pastor Dan resigned from a church he and his wife Connie had planted and where he had served as the Senior Pastor for 13 years. As we reacquainted ourselves with one another it became clear that God was leading all of us to the same decision. In February of 2016 the church welcomed Pastor Dan to the office of Senior Pastor.
Since his arrival and with the continuing leadership of the Elders, the church has seen and felt steady growth. We are looking forward to the future of UBC as we continue our tradition of expositional Bible teaching and caring for the hearts of both the saved and the yet-to-be-saved.
